creates a very compelling argument about the differences between physical property and intellectual property in her statements involving media copyrights. I agree with her on the premise that, "no one really "owns" music or other copyrighted works in the sense that I own my bike." How can one take ownership of something without it actually being a physical thing. Her second brilliant tactic was to restate the actual congressional clause, not the common interpretation, "to promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries." These words carry a slightly different portrayal than "piracy" and "stealing" the diction used by the commercials sponsored by large corporations. The main idea is if people profit from their creativity they have incentive to create again, thus progress occurs. Concert tours, promos and connections generate enough income in my opinion. Why should 'superstar' artists and actors be the highest paid professions in out society? What does that say about our culture? I, personally don't think 50 Cent needs another diamond penchant. Besides the true passionate innovators should not in the game for money alone. The speaker continues by bringing up the entertainment industry's lobbying strong hold on congress. I agree that after an artist's death he or she cannot have any incentive to create thereby making all copyrights irrelevant. "Copyright terms originally lasted 14 years and could be renewed for another 14-year term. Copyright terms now last the creator's lifetime plus 70 years." This is evidence of the lobbyists pressure because the only one to gain is the profit minded music industry.
